Do you see your mother and father in them?

Parivaar Sharavan Kumar Prakalpa – Major Milestone of organising 7500 eye camps in last 4.5 years.

I never thought that this could become an important line of work for us before I noticed something about 4 and half years back.

During a community meeting in a remote tribal village I saw an elderly couple walking hand in hand with great difficulty. The meeting ended but the image stayed with me. Next day I asked our field persons to trace them and know what their problem was. I was told that they had lost their vision for a long time.

I knew a very senior doctor in an eye hospital and spoke to him whether I could send these patients. He asked me to take a close-up picture of their eye and send that, saying that through that itself he would make out whether anything was possible. I did that and upon a positive response we sent them to the hospital. After two days the two Amma and Baba, were walking with beaming faces. Several villagers welcomed them and sweets were distributed. It was nothing short of a miracle for the two as well as the villagers that their vision had been restored.

It was a revelation for me – a moment of epiphany – that millions of ultra poor aged people in our country live a life reconciled to blindness when cure was possible. Covid 2.0 wave followed and after it receded we resolved to make this a regular program and this was named ‘Parivaar Shravana Kumar Prakalpa. Soon we spoke to the Sri Ranchhoddas Trust hospitals and rolled out the program.

Since 18th June 2021, almost every day we have been having 4 to 12 camps. Our Vision team of around 40 persons is stationed in several districts and remain on the move from district to district. The tasks in this work start right from pre-camp propagation, arranging technicians from the hospital to visit the camp sites, mobilising people for camps, arranging transportation for them, arranging their mid-journey meals, accompanying them to the hospital and finally, bringing them safely back to their homes.

By Grace of God, yesterday we have reached a major milestone of organising 7500 camps since the starting of this program in June ’21.

In these camps more than 7.5 Lacs persons have been examined. (Average of abiut 101 per camp.)

More than 84 thousand persons were then sent by us to hospitals for eye surgeries (cataract and retina) free of costs, primarily through the two hospitals of our collaborator in this project – Sri Sadguru Ranchhoddas Seva Sangh Trust – with its hospitals located at Chitrakoot (Satna district MP), and Anandpur (Vidisha district, MP).

These camps have been held in interior rural areas of 37 districts of MP and one district each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

A good number of those who did not require surgery were given spectacles and eye medication.
