Alirajpur district, located on the south western boundary of Madhya Pradesh, borders both Gujarat as well as Maharashtra. It has around 87% population from Bhil tribal community and the rural side is completely having tribal population. This district has a literacy rate of 37 % which is the lowest among all 700 or so districts in the country. The female literacy rate is even worse.
We have set up our first Seva Kutir at Jalsindhi in Sondwa block where there is no approach road and access is through boat for around 3 kms. There is no electricity in the village. The children in the age group of 3-14 years will be provided education in two shifts (morning and evening) as well as nutritional breakfast and snacks. Life skills as well as sporting and cultural activities will also be done on a regular basis.
We are endeavouring to set up 50 to 100 such centres in villages of Alirajpur. With this we now have our Seva Kutirs in 711 villages in 17 districts of Madhya Pradesh where more than 55 thousand children are being served.
