It is with great delight that we share the grand success of our Seva Kutir children in the entrance exams conducted at state level for special residential schools (Navodaya, Eklavya, Kanya Shiksha Parisar, and Model Schools) in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

Last year there were a total of 59 selections in Navodaya Vidyalayas (in the first list there were 52 selections). This year 84 children (48 girls and 36 boys) have already got selected in the 1st list and we expect that the final figure will reach 90 plus. There are about 600 contestable seats (reserved for ST communities) in these districts. Quite a few of our children have secured marks that have made them qualify through Open (General / Unreserved) seats.

In Eklavya Residential Schools, 962 children were selected last year (in the first list there were 587 selections). This year 811 children (615 girls and 196 boys) have cleared in the 1st list and we expect that the final figure will cross 1100. There are a total of about 8000 seats for children from tribal communities.

The government spends an amount of Rs 1.25 lakhs to Rs 1.5 lakhs on each student per year in these residential schools. Admission into these institutions ensures almost a zero drop out till Higher Secondary (Grade 12 level) for these children who are from areas where High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools are far and remote, and thus difficult to attend.

It is to be underscored that even among the tribal communities, the children we are working with and have got admitted are amongst the most impoverished and dispossessed.

We are exceedingly hopeful of bright futures for each of these children.
